Precautionary Measures for Hull and Machinery
We have recently encountered a collision case between a Panamax Container Vessel and a dredger. Apparently, the container vessel lost control over her steering and deviated from her path and came into direct collision with the dredger while transiting the Suez Canal. With that case in mind, we deemed it best to prepare a small list of recommendation on things to keep in mind to best avoid having any hull claim:
1. The vessel’s crew should always check the vessel’s engine, generators and equipment navigation before the vessel transit the Suez Canal.
2. The vessel’s crew should be standby during transit of the marine channel or entry to any Egyptian port.
3. The maintenance schedule should always be carried out on time by the vessel’s crew.
4. Should any incident occur; the club correspondent should be notified at once to take proper measures to best protect the vessel’s interests.
When it comes to hull damages, it is of utmost importance to have an expert attend at the material time to make sure all proper procedures are done on time and any repairs are carried out properly to the satisfaction and approval of the class surveyor.
